Products: Social Media Content, Video Case Study, Written Case Study

“No matter what I say in the proposal, that could be taken with a pinch of salt. But when they actually see and hear somebody talking [on video] about the success that they’ve had because of working with me, that’s very often the thing that gets the deal across the line.”

Snapshot

Paul McCartney is a business coach who works with business owners through his practice, e-Business Coaching. He worked with 5 Star Stories to capture a video case study interview with one of his coaching clients, Maria.

The Challenge

Paul is a firm believer in social proof. “People buy people like them,” he says – and he knew that prospective clients needed to hear from someone who had already walked the path. The problem was getting that proof in a form that actually worked.

Written testimonials weren’t enough. “Whereas of course, if you have a written case study or a written testimonial, it could be made up. And people are naturally suspicious these days” – especially, he notes, in an era of AI-generated content. And even when he asked clients directly for a recommendation, it rarely translated into action: “They don’t always do it.”

The Process

5 Star Stories handled everything. Once Paul identified Maria as a potential participant, the process was taken off his hands entirely – participant outreach, preparation, and the interview itself all managed independently. That independence turned out to matter more than Paul had anticipated.

Because 5 Star Stories conducted the interview, Maria could speak freely. “They don’t feel as if they have to say what I want to hear,” Paul explains. “They will be truthful with you.” And with Maria properly prepared before the call, she arrived relaxed and came across naturally – producing content Paul could actually use.

The Value That Both Paul and His Client Got

The output was a full interview video, a set of shorter social clips, and a ready-to-share link – deployed by Paul across YouTube, LinkedIn, his email signature, and client proposals. He also used a clip in a live presentation.

But the value wasn’t only in the assets. “Watching back the finished product afterwards made me realise the difference I’d made to her business” – a moment Paul hadn’t anticipated, and one that reinforced his own confidence in what he offers.

For Maria, the interview wasn’t just something she did as a favour – it was a genuine opportunity to stop and recognise how far she’d come. Clients, Paul observes, often lose sight of their own progress: “I think clients sometimes forget that all of these small steps that they’re taking, when they look back, they think, wow, haven’t I come a long way? And the video testimony was an ideal way for me to get them to look at how far they’ve come.”

The Impact

The video has become a fixture in Paul’s sales process. When a proposal lands in a prospective client’s inbox, the case study goes with it – and Paul has seen what that does. “That can very often be the clincher,” he says. “That’s very often the thing that gets the deal across the line.”

It reflects a philosophy Paul has held for thirty years: “It’s a much better process when people buy from you as opposed to having to sell to them. The beauty of the videos are that people see how I’ve helped people just like them.” The case study doesn’t sell. It shows – and lets the prospective client decide.

Verdict

“I think you made the process really simple … The beauty of using your service is the fact that you are talking to my client … You not only dealt with me, but you dealt with my client as well. And you made her very, very aware of what was going to happen on the day. And that, of course, just reduced the stress levels in her. She came across far more natural.”
